Me, Me, Me!
Name: Winter
Age: fifteen, sixteen on Friday
Gender: Female
The Character
Full Name: Indigo Aurora Knight
Picture:
Nickname(s): Indie
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Grade: Junior
Boarder or Day Student: Boarder
Clique: Indie and Rebel?
Classes: Modern Literature, French, Political Science, Calculus, Biology, Fashion Analysis
Personality: Indigo. You can never be quite sure what you'll get with this girl. One day, she might be so desperate for company that she'd be happy even to hang out with someone who hates her. But the next day? She might lock herself in her room and refuse to talk to anyone, preferring to be alone and just listen to music. Usually, though, she's somewhere between the two extremes. Not anti-social, not desperate for attention. But even when she-s acting anti-social, Indigo still loves people, in general. She can't help it... people are so interesting to her, the way they think, the way they act. So unpredictable, no matter how much you think you know them. If she could have any super power, it would definitely be mind-reading, just so she could understand people better. But even without being able to read minds, she tries her best to understand people. Which is why she has a hard time really hating anyone. She's always trying to keep in mind the other person's point of view.
So when she's all quiet, it's not because she doesn't want to be bothered, exactly. More that she's too caught up in something she's thinking about to bother with distractions. This doesn't happen all the time. Usually, when she's in a boring class or when she's outside alone, staring up at the sky. But if there's people there to start with, she's not likely to think too much. She'll be more outgoing, sometimes more outgoing than you could possibly want. Willing to try anything, to do anything. And by anything, she really means anything as long as it could be fun. Go bowling, horribly for that matter, because Indigo really can't bowl, wearing baggy pants three sizes too big held up by a few ugly belts.. just to see the looks she gets from people. Or maybe go into a neighborhood and knock on every door until she finds someone who looks interesting enough.
But one thing she'll rarely do willingly is stay in class and pay attention, at school. She just doesn't have the patience for it. Teachers are always telling Indigo to use her potential, because she's smart. And they know it. She'll ace any test or quiz, and when she actually hands homework in, it's done perfectly, free of mistakes. So Indigo could easily be at the top of her class, the future-valedictorian-type, if she wanted. But the thing is, she doesn't. She'd rather not waste the time on it. Instead, Indigo often does just enough work to get by, letting most people be oblivious to the grades she could be getting. It frustrates her parents, teachers, most adults. But she's too stubborn to change her ways just because she's been labeled 'intelligent' and it would be 'such a shame to waste it'.
Another thing about Indigo is that, though you most likely wouldn't realize it, she's a bit of a hopeless romantic. She loves those happily-ever-after, finding true love, fairy tales. And she'd love to fall in love. But she's not about to hold off for that. Until she does find a guy to fall in love with, she'll kiss any guy she feels like kissing, for any reason. She won't care if he's got a girlfriend -- because if he really cares about that girlfriend, he won't kiss back. And if he does kiss her back, then she's doing the couple a favor if it ends up breaking them up. Or so she sees it. But that doesn't mean she'll start something just for the sake of it. That would just be mean, and she tries not to be mean. Or rude. Hurting people just to hurt them isn't right.
Appearance:
Eyes:
At first glance, Indigo's eyes might be the first thing you would notice. Not because of the shape or she color, but because they can always be found surrounded in plenty of makeup. Eyeliner, eyeshadow.. some combination of the two. In any color. More than any 'normal' girl would dare to wear. But the makeup, while maybe the most obvious aspect to her eyes, isn't all there is to them. The color is some shade of dark, most people would expect a deep brown, maybe even a black. But if you get close enough, you'll see what it really is. A dark blue-gray, like staring into the ocean at night. And this is where you'd be likely to see exactly into what's going on in that head of hers. Her eyes give away every emotion, if you know how to read them.
Hair:
Maybe it's because her eyes give away so much that Indigo insists on keeping her hair how she does -- with long bangs to help cover a small portion of her face on one side. Or maybe it's just because she likes it that way... who could really be sure? In it's natural state, the hair is dark -- either black, or something very close. And it's straight as straight can get. Only by sleeping with her hair still wet from a shower can she hope to get any sort of texture to it. Frustrating, sometimes. But a lot less frustrating than battling with a straightening iron every morning to achieve the same look, like she'd seen others do. And the long hair is usually kept simply down, sometimes a small bit held back by a clip on one side.
Skin Tone:
Year-round, the girl's skin stays the same color: pale. A color so light that, sometimes, it even appears to be almost pure white. She's pretty much incapable of tanning. Luckily, she doesn't freckle or burn easily, either. It's like her skin is too stubborn to change. No matter what, it remains the same smooth, light color. No flaws or imperfections. And though you might think that with hair and eyes as dark as hers, a skin tone so light could never work.. it does. It completes her look, making her more attractive than she'd ever be with a tan.
Body:
You could say Indigo is tiny. But it all depends on how you define 'tiny'. At exactly 5'0, she fits into most people's definitions, at least when they're thinking of sixteen-year-olds. The average girl is a good four inches taller than her, if not more. And it's not just shortness which makes her small. Her weight is low, at 86 pounds. Low enough to shock most who hear. But, keeping in mind that she's short, it's not as extreme as it seems. Sure, she's skinny. But she's not about to die of starvation. In fact, she eats more than most and loves anything full or calories. It's a fast metabolism that keeps her so small.
Style:
Indigo's style is all her own. Who else would you see sitting in math class with a tiara on her head? Or, maybe, wandering around the football field in the rain, wearing a pretty dress? Her weakness is pretty things. She's not going to wait until a 'suitable occasion' to wear an outfit she loves. If she wants to wear it, the occasion is suitable enough. But for a girl who loves pretty things so much, you'd be surprised to find out that she doesn't wear shoes. Or at least, not if she can help it. Even in school, she'll take hers off as soon as she gets the opportunity. But when she must wear them, she sticks mostly with flats. Pretty ballet-style ones, or fun, printed ones. It all depends on her mood. In general, you could say her look is the kind of thing that shouldn't work, but does. An odd mix of patterns, textures, colors, fits. A band tee with a short, almost tutu-like skirt, legwarmers, and no shoes? Yes, it sounds like the kind of thing she'd wear. And the kind of thing that would make no sense on anyone else. But her outfits are so perfectly her that she always looks amazing in them no matter how ridiculous anyone else would look.

History: Wealthy and successful, Indigo's parents could give her anything and everything she'd ever want.. as long as it could be bought. And so, growing up, material things were never something Indigo lacked. Instead, it was attention. Her mother, a fashion photographer, was always traveling. All across the world, from Paris to New York City to Sydney to Tokyo. And while Indigo could travel with her when it didn't interfere with school, even then her mom would often be too bust to really spend time with her. Indigo's father, at least, spent most of his time in London, where Indigo lived. But, he was almost always working in his office. Neither parent, it seemed, had any spare time for their daughter.
And so, you could say that she basically raised herself. Her parents weren't big on supervision. Instead, from the age of eight, she was left alone when they were busy. Maybe they regretted this a little, when they found the walls of the hallway decorated from as close to the top as Indigo could reach, standing on a chair, to the floor, with her drawings. And she hadn't even used crayons, colored pencils, or washable markers. No, she'd gotten into the collection of multicolored sharpies in her dad's office. But the thing was, Indigo hadn't broken any rules, because her parents had given her none to begin with. And so she went free of punishment. And her parents didn't even bother giving her rules. They figured she'd find out for herself, through making mistakes, what she should and shouldn't do.
Indigo was content enough with her life, until her mother got pregnant again and everything changed. Sahara Adrienne Knight was born, and suddenly it seemed as if Indigo's parents were always around. Maybe she would have loved this, a few years earlier. Back when she actually missed seeing them. But she was used to raising herself, to make her own rules and not having to worry about anyone else being around. Her parents, her new sister, they became an annoyance, interfering with the way she wanted her life to be. The noise of a new sibling alone was enough to drive her insane. Crying, yelling, and later talking. She hated it. At first, she tried to just spend less time at home. But even that didn't work so well. Something needed to change, or she'd be driven crazy.
And so she asked for that change. Begged, more like it. She'd be entering high school next year, anyway, there was no year that would be more convenient. And as for the change, she didn't care what it was, as long as it would get her away from home. Boarding school, living with a relative somewhere else, living on her own somewhere else. Anything. It took a bit of arguing, but she managed to convince both parents that it would be good for her.. educational, even. Or something like that. And since they'd never spent much time with her, they weren't so worried about her being far away. They knew she could take care of herself well enough. And so they agreed. So since 9th grade, she's been at Darlington Academy.

Dreaded, maybe, but entirely necessary. That's what work was. But, as far as work went, this wasn't bad. At least not to Calypso. Few people came to Theatre 12. So there wasn't much working to be done. And once it had been decided that Calypso was trustworthy enough, the manager and owner of the place had left him alone for the long hours of... nothing. But, again, that wasn't so bad. He could space out or eat popcorn (The popcorn he was required to make, even though people rarely showed up to buy it. But it had to be there, just in case) or even bring his guitar and write songs. Which was what he loved. Few other places would pay him if he was just working on his won stuff.
So he'd learned to love the fact that the place was nearly deserted, usually forgotten about or overlooked. Because the rundown building itself, in need of fixing up, was often enough to scare away potential customers. As well as the fact that it only showed older movies. Nothing from within his lifetime. Possibly the only thing the place had going for it was that it was cheap. And that anyone coming would most likely have the entire place to themselves. First choice in seating.
But even if someone got as far as coming in to pay and see a movie.. they might change their mind. Honestly, Calypso couldn't be good for business. He'd sit right on top of the counter by the chash register, guitar in his lap. And usually he'd be dressed in one of his odd outfits, working on a song. Which, if you were into that kind of thing, could be a good thing. But if you weren't, if you just wanted to see a movie in peace, then maybe he'd be enough to scare you off.
And today, was no different. There he was on that counter. Dressed in black pinstriped pants and an almost girl-like hoodie, made of thin material and decorated in thick black and white stripes. The shirt underneath, a shade of red that seemed to make his dark eyes stand out even more, was only slightly visible. Black converse and his typical strange eye makeup completely the look. That, and his guitar. And singing, of course. Not one of his own songs but one of his favorites. 'Believe Me, I'm Lying' by Forever The Sickest Kids. "Hey, you always seem to catch me when I’m lying.. about the stupidest of things.. Okay, stand there while I stab you in the back.. with words... I never never never should have taken this so far.."
